Enkhuizen was a prime port during the golden era of the Dutch East India Company. You can rediscover this period by visiting the Zuiderzee Museum, a popular destination for young and old. The open air part of the museum offers 135 period buildings collected from the area and canals, gardens and trees as they would have appeared in the late 18th century. Enkhuizen Travel Toolbox
Enkhuizen is best visited from April to October. It has a train station [see a rail map of Holland]. You could see Enkhuizen as a day trip from Hoorn, which lies 12 km to the south on the rail line to Amsterdam. Trains from Amsterdam take about an hour to arrive at Enkuizen.
The Zuiderzee Museum is a big attraction here. Marked on the map is the "inside" museum, a pepper storage house used by the Dutch East India Company.
Enkhuizen is part of the province of North Holland in the northwest of the Netherlands. It is situated on the North Sea, north of South Holland and Utrecht, and west of Friesland and Flevoland.
Getting There
Enkhuizen is an hour from Amsterdam by train. Hoorn, a larger town to the south, is 12 km away. The Enkyuizen-Stavoren Ferry, marked on the map, takes you across the IJsselmeer to Stavoren.
