Tyrnavos is northwest of Larissa, where there is a small airport, LGLR, marked on the map.
Tyrnavos is know for its "Dirty Monday" Phallus Festival held on the first Monday of Lent. The one-day pagan fertility festival is dedicated to Dionysos, god of wine and son of Zeus.

Tyrnavos isn't really a place to hang around if you're not attending the phallus festival, but if you are, you should look for a hotel in Larissa, shown on the map to the southeast. If you're also planning to visit the Meteora Monasteries, you might look for a hotel in Kalambaka.
On the other hand, the tourism board has a few things to say about the town:
There’s a lot to be said also for Týrnavos’ lovely sights to be visited all year round. Feast your eyes on the old traditional houses as well as the marvellous murals and relics to be found in the town’s historic churches. Visit the famous bridge on River Titarísios and the stone-built turkish hamam (bath-house), being the only remaining muslim building in the area. Go on a trip to the nearby lake “Máti Tyrnávou” (Eye of Tyrnavos), Thessaly’s single natural lake that is the centre of a habitat highly diverse in flora and fauna.
There is a bus connection from Larissa to Tyrnavos.
